Hmong College Prep Academy recently received a number of honors from the Minnesota Department of Education.

“MDE recently implemented a new school accountability system, The North Star System, that measures five factors to determine if a school is successful or not,” stated HCPA Superintendent Dr. Christianna Hang. “The North Star System measures academic achievement, progress towards English language proficiency, academic progress, graduation rates and consistent student attendance.”

HCPA’s Middle and Elementary School were recognized as being in the State’s top 5% in terms of consistent attendance, with an average of 96.5%. In addition, attendance for the entire HCPA School District was 94%. MDE defines consistent attendance as the percentage of students attending more than 90% of the days they are enrolled at a school. The State average is 83%.

HCPA also exceeded State averages in a number of categories including:

  • Four- and seven-year graduation rates
  • Progress towards meeting math growth standards
  • K-12 English learners academic progress

“Though we have a way to go to where we wish to be, we are very happy with how we measured up in the first year of MDE’s North Star System,” added Dr. Hang. “We look forward to our school continuing to improve in all areas in the future.”

Hmong College Prep Academy is located at 1515 Brewster Street in St. Paul, just southeast of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. For more information about other HCPA programs or directions, interested parents and students can call 651-209-8002 or online at www.hcpak12.org.
