Hmong College Prep Academy was recently selected as a recipient of a 2018 National School Choice Week (NSCW) Leadership Award, a national honor acknowledging schools that “provide all students with access to effective education options.”
The National School Choice Week is an annual event that brings awareness of the different K-12 education options available to children and families as well as spotlights the benefits of school choice. Since its inception in 2011, NSCW has become the world’s largest annual celebration of opportunity in education. Over the past seven years, more than 58,000 NSCW events have taken place across the country and around the world. The organization is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical, independent public awareness group and not associated with any legislative lobbying or advocacy.
“We are grateful to the NSCW for selecting Hmong College Prep Academy to receive this award,” stated Superintendent Dr. Christianna Hang. “At HCPA, we constantly strive to provide our students and their families with a quality, college-focused education. It’s very rewarding to have a third-party organization acknowledge the accomplishments of our students, staff and administration.”
Hmong College Prep Academy continues to make great academic strides. The school’s average graduation rate over the past four years is 84%. In addition, the class of 2017 set a record with graduates being awarded over $3.7 million dollars in scholarship and grants, over four years, from the schools to which they were accepted. Many credit the school’s College Prep, (CP), program as the driving force of its success.
“The mindset that our students will be going to college is a part of HCPA’s curriculum beginning in Kindergarten,” stated School Counselor Cecelia Lee. “The CP Program provides our students with the resources needed to find a secondary education experience that matches their interests and career goals. It also helps students apply for scholarships and financial aid.”
Hmong College Prep Academy is located at 1515 Brewster Street in St. Paul, just southeast of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. For more information about other HCPA programs or directions, interested parents and students can call 651-209-8002 or online at www.hcpak12.org.
