A Message From The Hmong Cultural Center’s Executive Director

Thank you so much for your support of Hmong Cultural Center over the past year! We have several exciting initiatives happening in 2018 that I would like to briefly share with you. We continue to successfully build new outreach in our Adult Basic Education programs (English as a Second Language, Occupational English and Citizenship) with newer immigrant/refugee communities including the Karen and

Somalis in St. Paul in addition to the Hmong community we have long served. I would like to emphasize that our Citizenship program is one of the largest of its kind in Minneapolis-St. Paul and continues to help many of our neighbors earn their U.S. Naturalization so they can exercise their full rights as Americans.

We are continuing to build new educational exhibits in our Museum Exhibit Center which now features 22 panels in our permanent exhibit – Hmong Minnesota: Yesterday and Today – developed in partnership with

Museology and Design Uake to help teach our St. Paul and Minneapolis communities about Hmong history and culture.

This year we will continue to install additional interactive iPad stations for a total of 7 such stations teaching visitors about the Hmong Folk Arts including Qeej, Wedding and Funeral Songs, Embroidery, traditional musical instruments, Hmong sung poetry and Hmong history including the Secret War and Hmong history in the U.S.

With these resources available to the public, the Hmong Cultural Center is a primary site for multicultural education about the Hmong in the Twin Cities area and Minnesota.
