Hmong College Prep Academy Hosts Second Annual Senior Signing Day

By Dave Bonko

Members of Hmong College Prep Academy's Class of 2017 celebrate their academic accomplishments at the school's recent College Signing Day.
Hmong College Prep Academy recently hosted their second annual Senior Signing Day, an event to honor the accomplishments of the school's upcoming graduating seniors who have been accepted into a college or university for the 2017-18 school year.

"This is the second year we've acknowledged the academic achievements of our graduating class," stated HCPA Superintendent Dr. Christianna Hang. "I believe I can speak for the faculty and staff by saying we are all very proud of what these students have accomplished during their time at HCPA. For many, their education took them way out of their comfort zone. We look forward to their successes in college and beyond."

Dr. Hang was also pleased with the variety of colleges and universities the school's students will be attending in the fall.

"Our graduates will be attending some of the finest colleges and universities in the Upper Midwest. A number have enrolled in the University of Minnesota system including Twin Cities, Duluth and Morris campuses. Minnesota State Colleges and Universities such as Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota State-Mankato and Southwest Minnesota State will soon have HCPA alumni as students. Probably the highest number in our school's history indicated they will be attending Minnesota private institutions including Bethel, Hamline, St. Thomas, St. Scholastica, St. Benedicts and Gustavus Adolpus. Others will start their post-high school education at area junior colleges-North Hennepin, Century, Ridgewater and St. Paul College; a cost efficient way to complete one's general education credits. Finally, a few students will be serving their country in the National Guard. Again, we are very proud of all our upcoming grads."

"Members of the Class of 2017 will be receiving a significant amount of aid," added School Counselor and College Prep Coordinator Cecelia Lee. "This class was awarded nearly $3.7 million dollars in four-year grants and scholarships from the schools in which they were accepted."

Dr. Hang echoed Cecelia's comments. "Last year, the Class of 2016 received $350,000 in scholarships. I told the students 'See? It pays to do well in school!'"

HCPA's 2017 Senior Graduation Ceremony will take place on Friday, June 9th.

Hmong College Prep Academy is located at 1515 Brewster Street in St. Paul, southeast of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The school is currently accepting K-12 grade students for the 2017-2018 school year; however, space is extremely limited.
