Hmong College Prep Academy recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate their upcoming campus expansions project. Over 1,700 students, staff members, parents, and stakeholders took part during the Wednesday, March 29th event to celebrate a new phase in the school's history. Speakers representing all facets of the school celebrated HCPA's journey over the past twelve years. The ceremony was capped off by the presentation of golden shovels to the three groups vital to HCPA's past and continued success--students, teachers and staff and stakeholders. The ceremony concluded with shoveling of dirt, a celebratory tossing of plastic "hardhats" and photographs documenting the important day in HCPA's history.

"Our students and their families as well as our staff are all extremely excited about our campus's second expansion. Upon completion, our new campus will continue to be a one-stop educational center for both our students and the community, " stated HCPA Superintendent Dr. Christianna Hang. "Once done, we will be able to educate up to 2,400 K-12 students."

HCPA is currently housed in a two-story, 144,000 square foot building at 1515 Brewster Street in St. Paul. Specific campus expansion plans include:

• An elementary school addition of approximately 90,000 square feet

• The addition of 55 new classrooms, a state-of-the-art media center and high school gym space

• An outdoor space for the school's soccer and lacrosse programs

• New employee parking, an updated playground and additional campus green space

Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2017, with a portion of the space opening to students the following fall. In addition to RJM, the project team includes Kodet Architectural Group. The team assisted Hmong Academy with their last significant construction project in 2013.

Hmong College Prep Academy is located at 1515 Brewster Street in St. Paul, southeast of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The school is currently accepting K-12 grade students for the 2017-2018 school year; however, space is extremely limited.
