By Dave Bonko

Members of the Hmong College Prep Academy Boys' Basketball Team celebrate their Twin Cities Athletic Conference Divisional Tournament Championship. The Warriors ended the season with a 10-8 record, the best in the school's history.
Hmong College Prep Academy's Boys' Basketball team finished the 2016-2017 season with the best record in school history and a Twin Cities Athletic Conference Divisional Tournament Championship.

HCPA 101, Metro College Prep 36

In the opening round of tournament action, the Warriors put up big numbers. 101 marked the most points scored in the school's history.

HCPA 59, North Lakes Academy 47

In the semi-finals, HCPA found themselves pitted against an improved North Lakes Academy squad. The Warriors and Huskies split two close games during regular season play.

HCPA 78, Chesterton Academy 70

The championship pitted the Warriors against another team they'd faced earlier in the season. In both games, HCPA defeated their tournament championship opponent by 20 or more points. This time Chesterton was up to the challenge and held a commanding 20-point lead with less than five minutes remaining. However, the Warriors came from behind for the eight-point win.

Senior guard Chinou Vang scored 53-points in the team's improbable comeback. He also took home a host of awards including All-Conference Team, All-Conference Defensive Team and Division Most Valuable Player honors. Senior forward Jason Cheng was also named to the All-Conference team and the Warriors received the Conference Team Sportsmanship Award.

"This was a very special season for our school," stated Assistant Coach Brent Ness. "This team has a half-dozen 12thgraders who saw this program go from worst to first over their high school career. That's something they'll take with them long after they graduate."

The Warriors concluded the 2016-17 season with a 10-8 record, the best in the school's history.

Hmong College Prep Academy is located at 1515 Brewster Street in St. Paul, just southeast of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. For more information about other HCPA programs or directions to the school, interested parents and students can contact us at 651-209-8002 or online at www.hcpak12.org.
