By Dave Bonko

Hmong College Prep Academy Boys' Soccer Team in action last year agains Academy For Sciences and Agriculture. The Warriors open the 2016 season on Tuesday, September 6 against the Lycans of Prairie Seeds Academy.
Hmong College Prep Academy Girls' Volleyball and Boys' Soccer will soon begin their fall seasons.

The Lady Warriors Volleyball Team opens their fall campaign on Tuesday, August 30 on the road against Washington Technology Magnet School. Coach Fong Vang is very excited about the upcoming season. "We should have a very competitive team this year," stated Coach Vang. "Last season, we finished second in the conference tournament. I believe if we can put it all together, we can contend for the conference tournament championship."

Coach Vang feels his team has a solid group of seniors on which to build a successful season.

"We have a solid team with captain senior Koussy Yang leading the way. She has always been a leader and one of our best all-around players. Senior Nina Lee continues to show her dominance defensively and has now added a great back row attack to her arsenal. Senior Lori Tran was a starting setter last year but we moved her to outside hitter with her improved swing, look for her to score many points for the Warriors. Senior Terisa Vang will remain one of the starting setters. Her skills have improved over the year and I am looking forward to her attack. She seems to have a better grasp of how to spike and they are much more powerful and accurate. Senior Maycy Yang will help us out in the front row blocking and hitting on the right side. Her defense has improved and will definitely make some plays for us. The newest addition to our team is a young freshman player by the name of Evelyn Yang. Her skill set brought her up immediately to the varsity level. She will be the other starting setter for the team. Her knowledge of the game and skill set will definitely help us win games."

This year, the Lady Warriors will play in the Twin Cities Athletic Conference, which features 22 charter schools located throughout the region.

"With the new conference, we look forward to playing new schools," added Coach Vang. "Some key opponents this year will be Nova Classical Academy. They have always been tough and I expect them to be just as good this year. Christian Life Academy is another great program and they seem to have players as well. We will be playing in the top tier of our conference for volleyball so each team is not to be underestimated, but Nova and Christian Life would be a couple key teams to beat."

The Warrior's Boys' Soccer Team begins their season on Tuesday, September 6 for a game against the Prairie Seeds Academy Lycans. Coach Vong Yang is optimistic about the upcoming season.

"Our team looks entirely new this year. We have a few new faces along with some returning players that will play a significant role this season. We have about 20 players out for the team. Everyone has worked hard and shown a very positive attitude. I'm excited to see the progression from returning players and the hard work the new players are willing to put in. One word that describes this group is determination... they are a very determined team."

Coach Yang is also looking forward to what the new Twin Cities Athletic Conference will bring.

"This is the first year of the new conference and there are a few teams that we've never seen before. It will be a complicated task to play against new teams for sure. But the ball can roll either way. I think it's best to just practice hard, play to our full potential and be a little optimistic about this year. A whole new scene for all the teams in the conference this year so I guess it's pretty much a toss-up."
